View Cerakote optionsDiagnosis before parts
A firearm that fails to feed, fails to eject, or will not lock back has a cause, and the cause is not always the part an owner suspects. Magazines, ammunition, a dirty or dry action, a worn spring, and an assembly error can all produce similar symptoms. That is why diagnosis comes before a parts order: we look at the whole system on the bench first, then quote the repair based on the firearm and the work requested, and no work starts until you have that quote.
- Bring the firearm unloaded, in a case
- Bring the magazines you use with it
- Note the ammunition you were shooting
- Describe what happened and when it started
Choosing slide work and porting
Slide cuts and barrel porting are machining jobs, so they are permanent changes to the part. Pick the optic first, or at least bring its exact model, so an optic cut matches that optic footprint. Decide whether you want iron sights tall enough to see through the optic window, and check that your holster accepts an optic-ready slide. Front serrations and lightening cuts are handling and appearance choices. Porting vents gas near the muzzle; owners should weigh that against the extra blast, flash, and cleaning the ports involve, and talk it through at the bench before a barrel is cut. We make no accuracy or speed claims for these modifications.
Engraving, done lawfully and in the right order
Our fiber laser handles NFA engraving, deep metal engraving, custom artwork, and challenge coins for firearms, knives, and gear. Federal law prohibits removing, altering, or obscuring a firearm serial number, and required manufacturer markings must stay legible, so we plan engraving for an open area of the part. Bring artwork as a clean digital file if you have one. If a job combines engraving or machining with Cerakote, tell us at booking so the machining and engraving happen first and the finish goes on after.
Assembly, builds, and booking
Custom upper and rifle assembly is part of our armorer work, and the same bench supports complete custom builds, including parts sourcing and final assembly, with Cerakote available as part of the project. Bring the parts you already have and a list of what you want the finished firearm to do. All work is by appointment at 8510 Highway 150 in Greenville, Indiana: call (812) 364-1466 or use the contact form, name the goal (running problem, optic, finish, personalization, or build), and we will tell you what to bring and what the job involves before any work starts.

How mail-in service worksFrequently Asked Questions
Where is your gunsmithing shop?
Our shop is at 8510 Highway 150, Greenville, IN 47124, in Floyd County near New Albany and Louisville. Work is by appointment only.
What gunsmithing services do you offer?
Armorer repair and malfunction diagnosis, cleaning, custom upper assembly, pistol slide cuts (optic cuts, lightening cuts, front serrations), barrel porting, fiber laser engraving including NFA engraving, and factory-certified Cerakote.
How is gunsmithing work priced?
Every job is quoted at the bench based on the firearm and the work requested. Contact us or call (812) 364-1466 with the details for a quote before any work starts.
Can I mail my firearm to you for work?
Yes. You can ship your unloaded firearm to our licensed Type 07 FFL for gunsmithing, Cerakote or custom builds, and we ship it directly back to you when the work is complete.
What should I bring to a gunsmithing appointment?
The firearm unloaded and in a case, the magazines you use with it, and a note on the ammunition you were shooting and what happened. For an optic cut, bring the optic or its exact model so the cut matches its footprint.
Do I need to choose my optic before a slide cut?
Yes. An optic cut is machined to match the footprint of a specific optic, so pick the optic first. Slide cuts and barrel porting are permanent changes, and we will talk through holster fit and iron sights before any machining.
Can engraving cover or move my serial number?
No. Federal law prohibits removing, altering or obscuring a firearm serial number, and required manufacturer markings must stay legible. We plan engraving for an open area of the part and will show you where it can go.
Should machining or engraving happen before Cerakote?
Yes. Optic cuts, lightening cuts, front serrations, barrel porting and laser engraving should be done before a Cerakote finish so the coating is not cut through afterwards. Tell us at booking if your job combines both.
