FFL Transfers for Louisville, Kentucky Buyers
Standard Issue Armory is an Indiana dealer across the Ohio River from Louisville. We do not have a Louisville storefront. Before you name us as your receiving dealer, read the one rule that matters most for Kentucky residents: federal law treats handguns and long guns differently when the dealer is in another state.
Online firearm purchases can be transferred through our Type 07 FFL in Southern Indiana. Confirm current Indiana and destination-state rules before you ship.
Long guns: yes. Handguns: use a Kentucky dealer.
Under federal law, a licensed dealer may transfer a rifle or shotgun to a resident of another state when the sale is legal in both states and the buyer is present in person. A Louisville resident can therefore have a rifle or shotgun shipped to us and pick it up at our Greenville shop after the background check.
Handguns are different. A handgun sold to a Kentucky resident has to be transferred by a dealer in Kentucky. If you live in Louisville and bought a pistol or revolver online, ship it to a Kentucky FFL, not to us. We would rather tell you that now than have a handgun sit in our shop waiting to be shipped back.
What to bring from Kentucky
Bring a valid Kentucky driver license or state ID with your current address. You complete ATF Form 4473 at our counter, and we run the FBI NICS check. Federal age rules apply: 18 for long guns from a dealer. If you have recently moved to Louisville from Indiana, your ID decides your state of residence for the form, so bring the ID that matches where you live now.
Coming over the river
From downtown Louisville, the usual route is Interstate 64 west over the Sherman Minton Bridge, then the Highway 150 exit toward Greenville and Floyds Knobs. Pickups are by appointment only, so call (812) 364-1466 once we have phoned you to say the rifle is logged in. Our standard transfer fee is $20 per firearm.
